ILM Capital was founded to challenge the limitations of traditional private equity and real estate investment models—where high fees, slow processes, and a lack of operational insight too often dilute returns and stall progress.

Our team saw an opportunity to build something different: a hands-on investment firm built by operators, for operators. Drawing from our experience across real estate, hospitality, technology, and health & wellness, ILM Capital was designed around a more agile, transparent, and collaborative model—one that aligns deeply with founders. Our Team

Founding Partner & Chairman, ILM Capital

Michael P. Wheeler is a proven entrepreneur and seasoned investor whose leadership anchors ILM Capital’s long-term vision. He founded and successfully monetized three technology companies—Integrex Systems, mindSHIFT Technologies, and Segovia Inc.—each of which was sold to publicly traded firms. His transition from tech entrepreneur to real estate and private market investor reflects his instinct for building high-growth, enduring ventures.

Since 2012, Michael has been an active investor, owner, and operator in the multifamily and student-focused real estate space, personally providing in-house capital for ILM acquisitions. As Chairman, he directs the firm’s operations, strategy, and investment committee, overseeing a portfolio that spans real estate, private equity, and operating companies.

Michael has assembled a high-performing management team with expertise across investment, legal, operations, and strategic execution. ILM’s integrated structure enables agile decision-making and disciplined growth across real estate, private equity, and operating companies.

Chief Financial Officer, ILM Capital

Mark Moore is the Chief Financial Officer at ILM Capital, where he leads financial structuring, investor relations, and portfolio-level strategy across the firm’s investments. With a background in commercial banking, capital markets, and private investing, Mark brings a measured, analytical approach to risk management and growth planning.

Mark’s experience includes serving as a business consultant and faith-based mentor, roles that reflect his unique blend of financial discipline and mission-driven leadership. At ILM, he is deeply involved in guiding capital deployment and performance tracking while cultivating strong, transparent relationships with investors.

His passion for purpose-driven investing aligns with ILM’s ethos of delivering more than capital—bringing integrity, strategy, and long-term value to every partnership.

Chief Operating Officer, ILM Capital

AJ Hawrylak is the Chief Operating Officer at ILM Capital, where he leads the day-to-day execution across investments, operations, and portfolio companies. His diverse background spans real estate, private equity, hospitality, and advisory work in both public and private sectors.

Before joining ILM, AJ served as Chief of Staff for a private family office, where he managed operations, marketing, and provided concierge-level service to ultra-high-net-worth clients. Prior to that, he spent five seasons in executive hospitality and business development for a professional sports franchise, supporting corporate clients and internal leadership initiatives. His background in high-touch, relationship-driven environments shapes his approach to deal sourcing, operational leadership, and strategic growth.

AJ has been actively involved in both community and industry-focused organizations, contributing to marketing committees and participating in award selection panels across government contracting and corporate leadership sectors. He holds a B.S. in Marketing and resides in Northern Virginia.

General Counsel, ILM Capital

Janele Tiernan is the General Counsel  at ILM Capital, where she provides strategic legal and operational guidance across the firm’s diverse portfolio of investments in real estate, private equity, and operating companies. Her role spans deal structuring, legal oversight, and risk management - ensuring each investment is positioned for long-term value creation and aligned with ILM’s core principles of partnership and thoughtful execution.

Janele is deeply involved in diligence, contract negotiation, and ongoing compliance across all entities under the ILM umbrella. Her cross-sector expertise enables her to support both transactional and operational needs, from acquisitions and joint ventures to scaling early-stage businesses. With a focus on clarity, alignment, and disciplined growth, Janele helps ILM and its partners navigate complexity with confidence and purpose.
